More Ways to Keep Pipes From Freezing This Winter
Here are tips that will help prevent your home’s pipes from freezing this winter.

Frozen pipes can be a big problem for your home. As such, you’ll want to prevent the freezing process in any way that you can. Fortunately there are many steps you can take to minimize the freezing that your piping endures. We discussed some methods before, but there are more that you can try. Here are tips that will help prevent your home’s pipes from freezing this winter.

Give Your Pipes Some Insulation

When your pipes are more exposed to the winter cold, it increases the likelihood that they’ll freeze over. Insulation goes a long way towards preventing freezing in your piping system. Insulation helps regulate your piping temperatures so that they never reach temperatures that could cause freezing to occur. It’s extra important to add insulation in areas that don’t get a lot of heat, such as with any outdoor piping, or for piping that’s in crawl spaces.

Seal Cracks in Your Home’s Walls

Perhaps there are parts of your home that are a little drafty. If there are any cracks in your home’ walls, cold air can get through them. This makes your piping system more susceptible to cold air and, by extension, the potential for freezing.

You’ll want to seal these cracks in your home so that the interior of your house is sufficiently insulated. Not only can this reduce the chances of pipe freezing, but it also reduces the strain on your HVAC system, since it won’t have to work as hard in order to regulate your home’s temperature.

Allow Water to Drip

Allowing water to drip from the faucet is a popular method for preventing pipe freezing. You’ll want to turn the knob for your hot water, and allow a small amount of water to trickle every night. It takes more time for water to freeze when that water is moving, so the steady stream of water can slow down the freezing process, and the warmth of hot water further prevents freezing.
