How to Prevent Toilet Clogging

How to Prevent Toilet Clogging
To prevent toilet clogging in your home, here are ideas that you can try.

The toilet is a valuable resource for any home, and it’s one that’s used regularly. You’ll want it to be functional at all times, but there may come times when it gets clogged up. This can be a real bother to fix, so it’s best to avoid clogging whenever possible. To prevent toilet clogging in your home, here are ideas that you can try.

Be Wary of What You’re Flushing

Toilets can become clogged when you try flushing the wrong items down the drains. While it’s perfectly fine to flush items such as floss, baby wipes, and toilet paper, you don’t want to flush items that aren’t toilet paper, or items that come from your body. If you’re not sure whether or not something can be flushed, it’s safer to put that item into a diaper pail or garbage bin.

Keep Your Toilet Clean

The bathroom is a place that can get dirty fairly quickly. As such, you’ll want to clean it frequently, and this includes cleaning the toilet. By cleaning toilets regularly, you keep waste matter from accumulating on them, and this extra waste could cause clogging in the future if it’s left unchecked.

Try a Double Flush

It’s possible that someone may incidentally put more toilet paper in the toilet than they planned. This is something that can commonly occur in home settings. While a single flush can deal with smaller obstructions, a double flush can sometimes be recommended. If a lot of toilet paper is used, try flushing the paper in smaller increments, and flushing multiple times.

Inspect for Leaks

Toilets can sometimes leak around the drainage vicinity. This can impact the function of the flapper valve, which raises the chances of clogs in the future. To keep this problem from occurring, make sure your flapper is always in good condition.

If you need to check whether or not the flapper is the source of the issue, you’ll want to lift the handle that’s found on the right side of your tank. Then, close the area where water pours out by making use of the ballcock valve. If this doesn’t improve your situation, it’s best to contact a professional plumber to resolve any leaks your toilet may have.
