Why a Toilet Could Have a Weak Flush
There are many reasons why a toilet might have a weak flush, and we want to explain those reasons with you today.

Toilets are regularly-used devices in our homes. We need them to have the flushing power to function properly. When flushing power is too weak, it can impact the functionality of your toilet, which can be a frustrating ordeal to fix. There are many reasons why a toilet might have a weak flush, and we want to explain those reasons with you today.

The Trap is Clogged

The trap is a curved area of the toilet that holds small amounts of water inside of it. It stops sewer gases from getting into your house. When this trap is clogged, weaker flushing may be one of the symptoms you notice. You might also hear gurgling noises, or the bowl might not empty completely.

A plunger can often be used for minor clogs. In tougher situations, you might need a toilet auger in order to either extract or break up the blockage.

The Flapper is Worn Out

The flapper is a piece of rubber in your toilet tank, and its purpose is to keep water sealed inside until someone flushes. These flappers get worn out with time, and they will eventually become warped and degraded. This will prevent them from creating an effective seal. As a result, water will begin leaking gradually from your tank, and into your toilet bowl. This makes the force of your flush less powerful.

Worn-out flappers often can’t be fixed. Fortunately, you can find replacements without too much difficulty, often at your local hardware store. If the flapper is the source of your weak flushing problems, getting a new flapper should resolve the issue.

Problems With Your Toilet’s Handle and Chain

The handle and chain device is used to lift your toilet’s flapper when flushing. Sometimes, however, the handle could become loose. Other times, the chain could either get tangled or disconnected. Problems like these can stop the flapper from opening up completely.

This is when you’ll want to inspect the handle and chain for potential problems. The chain shouldn’t be too short or long, and the handle should be sufficiently tightened.
