Has your water heater not been working as well lately? If it seems to be less efficient than normal, it could be a good idea to check on it to see if there are issues that need to be addressed. Here are some water heater maintenance tips that you should get done this spring.
Keep Your Water Heater at the Ideal Temperature
While the purpose of a heater is to provide hot water, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you set the temperature as high as you can. Ideally, you should keep the temperature at around 120 degrees Fahrenheit. This keeps scalding from happening, and setting the temperature any higher will cause sediment to build up more quickly in your water heater.
Inspect the Anode Rod
If you want to keep your tank from corroding, you need to keep the anode rod in good condition. This is the component that helps to keep corroding from occurring. The anode rod should get inspected roughly one time per year. If it’s become corroded or worn down, you’ll want to get it replaced.
See If It Has Leaks
Check to see if your heater is leaking anywhere. Perhaps there’s a pool of water at the base of the tank. Maybe the water has a rusty color to it. These are indicators that you’re likely experiencing leaking. If your water heater is leaking, you need to get the problem addressed quickly, as this can stop bigger problems from happening.
Keep the Tank Insulated When the Weather Gets Cold
Are you worried that your heater isn’t going to keep your water hot? This is a problem that happens in the colder seasons, particularly winter. To keep hot water running through your home, you should get the tank insulated. This makes water heaters more efficient, while also reducing the amount of wear and tear that your heater experiences.
