Ways to Prevent a Clogged Drain

One of the biggest threats to drains and pipes, mainly in the kitchen area, are fats, oils, and grease.

Nobody wants to look at YouTube videos trying to figure out how to fix a clogged drain. Nice weather has finally emerged, and we’re sure you would rather spend your weekend doing enjoyable things. It’s unpleasant taking a shower to find yourself standing in pooling water. Fortunately, there are several effortless ways to prevent a clogged drain, and today we’ll share these tips with you.

Prevent a Clogged Drain by Watching What Goes Down There

Pipes and drains can’t handle much more than water and human waste. When objects and materials go down the drain, it causes damage. One of the biggest threats to drains and pipes, mainly in the kitchen area, are fats, oils, and grease.

Refrain from pouring grease or oil down the drain. You can use empty coffee cans or mason jars to store fats, oils, and grease, which you’ll dispose of later. A drain cover with a filter cleaned off daily also adds extra protection.

Use Hot Water to Flush Drains

When you boil a few quarts of water and flush it down the drain, this technique helps break down built-up materials. However, we don’t suggest using this method if you have PVC pipes, as it can damage them. Instead, use hot versus boiling water.

Clean Drains Every Week

Use 1/2 cup of baking soda, white vinegar, and warm water to clean your drains each week. Plug the drain and leave it covered for one hour. The chemical reaction will break down anything built up in your drains. After an hour, use boiling water to rinse the solution down the drain. Many DIY solutions exist but refrain from using Coca-Cola to clean your sink. Baking soda and salt and baking soda and lemon are safe.
