4 Tips for Saving Water

4 Tips for Saving Water

Keep your water bills down by taking advantage of these tips.

Saving water is much easier than you might expect. Keep your water bills down by taking advantage of these tips. You’ll save money, and you’ll be kinder to the environment as well. So what should you do? Let’s find out.

Go to the Car Wash

Winter doesn’t sound like the ideal time to go to the car wash. After all, all the salt on the roads and the constant snow and ice falling from the sky will dirty up your car again. But this is a better idea than you think. You could be using up to 100 gallons of water every ten minutes when you use your garden hose, and if you’re using a power washer, it could be even more. At the car wash, they can only use a set amount of water, and the water needs to be recycled to help conserve it.

Use Your Dishwasher More

You can also use your dishwasher more often. Instead of cluttering up your sink and making your kitchen feel much smaller than it is. This means that you need to rely on your dishwasher, especially if it is Energy-Star rated. They’ll only use 5 gallons of water at a time, unlike washing dishes by hand, which can use up to 27 at once.

Look for Leaks

Next, take the time to inspect your home’s plumbing for any leaks. The leaks could be coming from your toilet, your faucet, or even your emergency shutoff valve. There should be a water usage meter somewhere in your home that you can check to see how much water you’ve been using lately, and it’s one way to determine if you have sprung a leak somewhere in your plumbing system.

Fix Your Water Heater

Lastly, it may be time to fix your water heater. If you don’t know how to deal with this, then call the experts. A hot shower on a cold day can be just the thing to give you a boost, but it might take time for the water to heat up, and that can be wasteful. Getting repairs done on your aging water heater can resolve any problems that might exist.
