What to Consider When Picking a Water Heater For Your Home

Read on to learn what you should factor into the water heater you choose for your home.

All homes are going to need a water heater. They are used in many aspects of our lives, whether it’s washing the dishes, getting laundry done, or bathing. If you’re getting a water heater installed, however, there are many types you’ll need to consider, and the right one for you will depend on a few different factors. Read on to learn what you should factor into the water heater you choose for your home.

What Size of Water Heater Do You Need?

Water heaters come in many different sizes, and the size of heater you want will be determined by the amount of hot water that’s used around your house. The more hot water you use, the larger your heater should be. Generally speaking, when you have more people living in the same house, that’s also a good sign to invest in a larger heater because you’ll want to be sure you have enough hot water to perform all of the tasks that require it.

Think About Your Water Heater’s Efficiency

The amount of hot water you have is important, but something else that’s important is that you can use hot water without any negative impact on your energy bill. Generally, smaller water heaters are more energy-efficient since you don’t have as much water in need of heating. The inverse is true for larger water heaters. The larger your tank is, the more likely it is for heat to escape from the tank. That’s not to say you should never use a large water heater, but you don’t want your tank to be much bigger than what you need.

How Much Space Will Your Water Heater Use?

Naturally, the heater you install needs to fit within your home’s dimensions. There are storage and tankless water heaters. If you go with storage heaters, your home needs to be capable of fitting a larger tank, which could occupy an entire closet or a large chunk of your basement. Tankless water heaters, on the other hand, are perfect if you don’t have as much space available around your house, and they can even be mounted onto your walls so you can free up additional floor space.
