Does Your Water Line Need Repaired?

water line

Low water pressure through your home may be an indicator that there is a leak in your water line.

Your water line is one of the most important connections in your home, responsible for bringing fresh water into your home either from a municipal water main or from a private well. It is critical to make sure that your water line is in good condition. Although water pipes are very sturdy, and can often last up to 100 years without needing replaced, you might find yourself having to replace it early in an emergency if you’re not careful. Here are some signs that may indicate your water line is in need of some work.

Pooling in Your Yard

When a water line starts leaking or rupturing, that water has got to end up somewhere. Usually, it means that the water is going to rise up from the soil and start forming puddles in your yard. If pools of water start inexplicably popping up in your yard, it might be an indication that your water line is in serious need of repair.

Sudden Loss of Water Pressure

Any time there is a loss of water pressure with one of your fixtures is a sign that your plumbing is in need of some TLC. The problem could be in a few different places of your plumbing system. It could be the result of a rupture or blockage in one of the pipes. If you’re noticing a sudden loss of pressure from all of your fixtures, though, the problem could be with your main water line and you should contact a professional immediately.

Spike in Water Bills

Water bills are generally pretty consistent from month to month because water usage doesn’t really vary that much. Keep an eye out on your bill and make sure any deviations from the norm can be explained from abnormal usage such as car washes, or members in your family taking longer or shorter showers. However, if your water bill spikes for no apparent reason whatsoever, this may be an indication that you need to get work done on your water line. Contact a trusted plumbing professional as soon as possible!
